So what does Personal Branding mean in 2022? Jeff Bezos from Amazon is quoted as saying branding is “what people say about you when you’re not in the room.” What people know about you, before they meet you. So what will your prospective employers and customers know about you before they meet you?
There is so much that people can find out about you online, it can be even worse if they can’t find anything about you online. If you do not manage your personal brand you will create a void that others can fill, maybe it will be your competitors who gets to write the online narrative around your personal brand.
As an Executive Coach, Furthermore, it is a common occurrence to receive inquiries about why individuals with less skill or experience often receive numerous speaking invitations at Industry Conferences and media commentary opportunities.Therefore the response typically lies in the fact that those individuals who possess a prominent profile have actively nurtured and managed their personal brand. Conversely, the individuals posing the question may not have put in the same level of effort to cultivate their own personal brand.

The February 2022 issue of Harvard Business Review (HBR) has a Personal Branding Article that points out that good on the job performance is often not enough to get the more senior appointments. You are expected to be “known”. Being “known” really means “known for”; what are you known for?
Furthermore, the core of a Personal Brand is usually a personal story, and experience or commitment to a niche. Essentially your personal brand reflects some of your core values, your story or the issues you actively support speaks to your core values.
Your reputation is made up of the opinions and beliefs people form about you based on your collective actions and behaviours.
Your personal brand, on the other hand, is much more intentional. It is how you want people to see you. Whereas reputation is about credibility, your personal brand is about visibility and the values that you outwardly represent.
Values Are At The Core Of Your Personal Brand
To build a sustainable personal brand it needs to authentically aligned with your values because you need to consistently act in alignment with your professed Personal Brand values.
It is not that you can never change components of your Personal Brand, we all evolve and change over time, but our core values rarely change in substantial ways.
Furthermore, as we embark on the second quarter of 2022, bidding farewell to the challenges of the past two years of Covid, it becomes apparent that now is an opportune time to breathe new life into our Personal Brand. Therefore this period has granted us the valuable opportunity to introspect, ponder our life goals, and recalibrate our priorities. Therefore In our relentless pursuit of a more harmonious existence, we consciously opted to relinquish the exhilaration derived from toiling for 90 hours each week, opting instead to embrace a transformative shift. Consequently, we deliberately selected a regional town as the anchor for our new beginnings. Additionally, Here, we actively engage with our neighbors and take pleasure in cultivating some of our own food on a large block. This transition has allowed us to embrace a sense of community and self-sufficiency.
