WHAT KIND OF A ROI CAN I EXPECT FROM PPC ADVERTISING?

 The answer to this question is a bit tricky, it largely depends on the industry you are in and the competition for the key words you are seeking to get clicks from.  WordStream by LOCALiQ, a global analytics firm, keeps an up to day benchmarking report on the current cost of PPC Advertising, you can access the 2023 version HERE

As you can see, the price per lead, or even the price per click across industries can vary from as little as USD$0.85c up to USD$3.00 per click and USD$27 to USD$61 per lead.  The full list shows the average cost of a Business Services Lead is USD$87, with Furniture at USD$91 per lead.  Wordstream also provide a great graphic on the variation of cost per click by industry.  You can see Real Estate pays less than USD$2 per click and Dentists pay USD$7 per click.

The click through rates also impact how difficult it is to reduce average advertising costs, the following graph shows how it is much easier to get a click for an Arts and Entertainment event (also reflected in the lower Lead cost) than it is to get a click on a home improvements Ad.

The other thing worth remembering is that over time the cost per lead and the cost per click change, here is a graph with the variation during the 2021 – 2022 period.  While the cost per lead for and Arts Event is still low compared to most other industries, the cost still increased by 39% for advertisers … maybe people were still wary about going out into crowds?  The cost of auto parts hardly increased at all over the same period.
